Prices of air tickets can be conveniently compared online at various travel and airline websites to get the best price. They can also be conveniently purchased online using a credit card. However, many Indian domestic airlines accept only locally issued credit cards, due to major air ticket scam.

FareSearch from Rediff.com - compare air fares on Air Deccan, Jet Airways, Spice Jet, Go Air, KingFisher, Indian Airlines. For flexible travel dates, it allows you to search for days when the fares are lowest. Traveller purchases tickets from the airline website directly. 

Also lists promotional offers for air tickets costing less than Rs 100 (surcharges + other taxes will usually cost an additional Rs 500- Rs 1000) 

Faresearch is available on mobiles by SMSing  FARES to 7333 from a GPRS enabled mobile phone

Jet Airways - seems to have a different interface for visitors from different countries. Have to indicate whether you are a Jet Privilege member at the time of booking a ticket. 

Online air tickets info for passengers from India

GoAir -  website seems to be updated regularly, special promotion "smart fares" for travel in June 2007 are listed on the home page itself . A credit note for ticket cancellation can also be used for booking online.

Kingfisher Airlines - one of the few non budget carriers. Provision to search by fare, fare and date and by schedule. Allows Web check in. 

SpiceJet - booking one way and return trip from website, allows web check in. Users have to login with password. Has tie ups with hotels

Air Deccan - largest low cost carrier, departure and arrival time of flights also indicated on website, no seat numbers allocated

MakeMyTrip - may have special promotional offers from airlines

Yatra - can make payment in cash for bookings, may have some low fare offers from airlines. Has tie ups with hotels.
